Ubisoft creative director casually confirms a new Splinter Cell on Twitter

Fans have been desperately requesting – okay, begging for – a new Splinter Cell game for the last half-decade. Ubisoft has been cagey about confirming development, but Division 2 creative director Julian Gerighty seems to have just confirmed that the new Splinter Cell is in development through a casual tweet. Personally, I expected an announcement at E3, but it’s 2019 and nothing makes sense anymore.

Accounting for hashtags and Twitter handles, Gerighty’s tweet says “Working on the next Splinter Cell with Dan Hay and Roman Campos Oriola in Lyon. Can’t wait for E3.” A few minutes later, he followed up to say “Ok – plz don’t retweet. I may be in trouble.” Then he changed his profile picture to feature Sam Fisher’s night vision goggles.

I guess that means we can expect to see a new Splinter Cell showcased at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference, which is now less than a month away. This ‘announcement,’ such as it is, seems a little too wild to actually be an accident. We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for comment, and will update when we hear more.

In the meantime, plan your viewing with our handy E3 2019 press conference schedule.

He just… tweeted it out…

We’ve written extensively about why it’s time for a Splinter Cell return, and it seems that our wishes are finally about to be granted. Stay tuned for more details, and whatever other strange marketing choices Ubisoft makes next.
